     Welcome to the Virgin Islands Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc. (VIDDC) website! Our website provides you with the opportunity stay informed about issues that impact individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. We share information, public policy statements, and opportunities to connect to the global network of resources. Follow our communications to participate in training for our VI community. Or, simply learn more about how to support the VIDDC and our partners in the collective effort to improve the lives our disabilities community members. Our goal is to ensure integration and full inclusion in the broader community


     The Virgin Islands Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc. (VIDDC) was reconstituted in 2012 with the expected plans to establish a state council on developmental disabilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands by executive order in accordance with the provisions of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 (DD Act) [Section 122 (b) (A)].  However, the VIDDC was established as a local U.S. Virgin Islands not-for-profit on May 30, 2014 and received its Internal Revenue Service 501c3 tax-exemption status four months later on September 22, 2014.

Create a community where people with developmental and intellectual disabilities live productively, independently and fully included in the community of their choice.


Mission

Promote and support Virgin Islanders with developmental and intellectual disabilities in their communities through advocacy, capacity building and system change.


Purpose

The VIDDC is an organization whose members and staff  key purpose of fulfilling it's primary mission in support of the provisions of the DD Act.  The VIDDC membership is comprised of persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities who can advocate for themselves and family members of individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. The VIDDC plans, develops, advocates for and fosters responsive public policy, practices, and opportunities in the state to promote systemic change and support people with developmental disabilities and their families.
